NTKN – We’ve Come a Long Way Baby

Good Morning,

A few new things today aside from the NKTN: I have started a new portion of the site (It’s a tab up on top) Food, Spirits and Politics. For those short on time and looking for some sarcasm/humor/Fact this is the place you will want to land. I am billing it as a place where we cut through today’s talking points; mix in some tasty cuisine paired with over the top drinks, in the hopes of making your dinner table political conversations a bit more appetizing. I hope you enjoy it!

Our weekly Quiz is up and wow it’s a doozey. I’ve included the answers at the bottom to cut the anticipation of ‘am I right?’

Chip Murray writes this morning of the ‘Other Hand’. Strong coffee is necessary as the shock of reality is killer!

All of the above is available to you on the main page:

Now, on to today’s NTKN:

“You might be wondering why the hell Romney picked this guy, but this is a strategic pick that carries real danger for us.” Hmm, that’s the latest email from the O camp’s Jim Messina. We ALL knew the lies would come but this is becoming pathetic. WND reports: The email begins, “Congressman Paul Ryan is the poster boy for the extreme Republican leadership in a Congress whose overall approval rating is 12 percent. His plan to dismantle Medicare is deeply unpopular with the general public, and especially undecided voters.”

That’s when the H-word gets invoked.

The rest of the letter reads:

“Here’s the calculation: Mitt Romney doesn’t need or expect Paul Ryan to convince even one undecided voter to cast their ballot for him. That’s not what he’s on the ticket for. He’s there to reassure and inspire ultraconservative ideologues and corporate interests that they will have one of their own a heartbeat from the presidency.

“That means tens or even hundreds of millions more dollars for the Romney campaign and the array of outside groups supporting him — and if current trends hold, more than 90 percent of that money will be spent on TV ads — lying, distorting and trashing Barack Obama. Those ads will have more impact on undecided voters than anything Paul Ryan himself does or says.

“Mitt Romney is convinced that picking Paul Ryan is a great investmentfor him. And his campaign is already touting the pledges and donations they’ve received as a result, with fundraising events planned for this week.

“We’re already being outraised, and we can’t afford to fall further behind. Our records show that you’re still waiting to make your first online donation — now is the time.

“Please donate $5 or more today.

“More soon.

“Messina.”

Two things immediately ‘popped’ when I read that email. A) If that email was written by say, oh I don’t know, a Republican…ALL HELL would have broken loose and it would have been the lead story across the land. It’s not. B) To quote Messina – lying, distorting, and trashing Barack Obama – umm, isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black? Just asking.

But this is a window into things to come.

Just yesterday, Paul Ryan gave a campaign speech at the Iowa State Fair on Monday, addressing an appreciate crowd of thousands… plus a few protesters who grew violent, and had to be escorted from the venue by state troopers. The Des Moines Register reports:

The audience of more than 3,000, many holding up Romney campaign signs, hooted and cheered, but a handful of protesters shouted at him about cutting Medicare and “the war on the poor.” It was an intense 12 minute speech, with much shouting and Iowa State Patrol officer dispatched into the crowd multiple times to quell unruly behavior. One protester struck a woman in crowd in the face, and there was a report that state Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Red Oak, was getting pushed down. Human Events has that story:

As to the point of ‘cutting Medicare’ turns out Paul Ryan’s own Mom is on Medicare. Wake up Dem’s – you’re fighting a losing battle here for the TRUTH is out. TownHall has that full story:

Democrats may be under estimating Paul Ryan as an opponent. Krauthammer points to the Obama controlled “bipartisan” meeting where Paul Ryan put Obama on the defensive and seemed to get under his skin. Are Americans ready for an adult conversation on the looming fiscal disaster? Obama’s party controlled senate has not done a budget in over three years. They do not want a budget. They want to continue to squander taxpayer money to their own benefit.

On a side note – Obama’s Democrat Debt Commission Head PRAISED Ryan!

Erskine Bowles was co-chair of Obama’s “debt commission” that he appointed to figure what to do about the mountain of debt that is piling up and ready to consume all government revenues. Bowles, the former president of the University of North Carolina, praised the Ryan plan as “sensible, straightforward, honest, serious budget.” Of course Obama ignored recommendations by his Commission on Fiscal Responsibility because it did not fit his Marxist ideology.

Oh and ONE more thing on this and it’s the MOST IMPORTANT…

Debbie you listening here???

  • The House Oversight Committee filed a civil lawsuit in federal court Monday against Attorney General Eric Holder for failing to turn over documents related to the Fast and Furious gun-tracking operation. The Hill reports that Republican Chairman Darrell Issa (Calif.) said the move was in response to a “political maneuver” by President Obama to assert executive privilege over documents that GOP leadership and Issa had requested from the Justice Department. “Waiting nearly eight months after the subpoena had been issued to assert a meritless claim of privilege, the President’s decision was a calculated political maneuver designed to stop the release of documents until after November’s elections,” Issa said in a statement following the lawsuit’s filing.

  • JUST IN: RS reports that Michelle Obama has Poisoned America’s Food Supply giving our Children Listeria! (Love Sarcasm!)

Michelle Obama has poisoned the nation’s food supply and potentially given listeria to America’s children, according to press reports.  Food inspectors have discovered listeria in packaged apple slices destined for McDonald’s, Burger King, and various grocery stores.  It was Michelle Obama’s push for healthier eating that led fast food restaurants to begin including apple slices in their kids’ meals.  Now, you and I may think it is outrageous to claim that Michelle Obama had anything to do with food poisoning America’s youth. You and I would be right to think it is outrageous. But if MItt Romney is responsible for Joe Soptic’s wife dying of cancer almost a decade after Mitt Romney left Bain Capital’s day to day management, it is only fair to use the same kind ofstupidity logic to point out Michelle Obama is giving kids listeria. What’s fair is fair, right?

  • One of our readers Sven M. brought up a really GREAT point. So we have CBS, CNN, ABC and PBS in charge of the debates. I am sure this will be fair and balanced. Where is the FOX moderator? I looked at the web site for this organization and cannot determine who they are, who sits on the board or what connections they have to anyone. It is impossible to contact them through the web site but they do list a DC phone number,

202-872-1020.  We need to have millions of people call this number to demand a fair selection of moderators, not those who are on record as saying “the selection of Ryan ” was disgraceful.  Let us get every Republican, Conservative, Independent and TEA party member to make this call ASAP. We need to know who these people are and how they select the moderators and questions. There moderators are all left wing and it cannot stand.

Interestingly enough NewsMax reports Conservative media watchdog Brent Bozell slammed the choice of only mainstream-media correspondents to moderate this year’s presidential debates, which could determine the outcome of the election. And he blames the Republican establishment for letting it happen.

  • Seriously? American Atheists (AA), a prominent secular group, is unleashing a contentious billboard campaign seemingly aimed at bashing presidential candidates’ – and the general populations’ religious beliefs. While attempting to boost its own standing, AA is using the two billboard as an opportunity to lambaste Christianity.

LOCAL:

WTH is Ball doing now? Democratic Senate candidate Justin Wagner is accusing Sen. Greg Ball of internet impersonation, saying Ball or his campaign is sending out emails through a Gmail account purported to be Wagner.

Wagner’s campaign manager, Steve Napier, filed a complaint with Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore that says Ball, R-Patterson, Putnam County, has violated state law. They are running against each other in November for the Hudson Valley seat.

The evidence, Napier said, is that the email account wackywagner1@gmail.com was sending out messages that links back to wackywagner.com—which Ball registered as a website to knock Wagner. It currently is playing an ominous video with a techno beat.

“Greg Ball has broken the law – sending out an email this morning to constituents from a fake email address and purporting it was from his opponent,” Napier said in a statement. “In addition to criminal impersonation, it also appears Senator Ball misappropriated email information from constituents gathered in his role as a State Senator for this political hack job. The proof is clear as day: Senator Ball himself registered and is the owner of this attack website.

Ball, who set up an attack website against Assemblyman Steve Katz, who had considered a primary run against Ball, responded that Wagner, a lawyer, should be the one being investigated.

“Tomorrow the Ball Campaign will be calling for an investigation and issue an immediate demand that Wagner fully disclose his firm’s clients, detailing the specifics of his ‘extended leave’ from his firm, which we believe may constitute an illegal campaign contribution,” Ball’s campaign manager Jim Coleman said in a statement. “We will give Wacky Wagner two weeks to disclose these details, before filing an official complaint. At which time, the Ball Campaign will ask for a full investigation by all proper authorities, if Wagner does not fully disclose any and all conflicts, and illegal behavior that must be corrected.”

Here’s Wagner’s letter to DiFiore, who also chairs the state’s ethics committee, the Joint Commission on Public Ethics:

For all Lisa’s readers. I just called that number (202-872-1020) about the debate moderators. Wonder of wonders I spoke to 2 REAL people. One an intern who knew nothing, and transferred me to their ‘comment line’ where I spoke to another more authoritative sounding gal. Boy I love to break chops! I asked this woman if there was a fox network moderator for the debates, and she confirmed that there was not. I asked her ‘why not’ and proceeded to voice my concern and question their methodology of choosing their moderators. PLEASE encourage everyone to make the call. It was actually fun, empowering! because I was the interrogator,,,,,,and she got a little rattled and HUNG UP ON ME!! I Love it! Just do it! Step up, people. You want to get rid of Obama? …… do something.
